In the Christian tradition, Lent is a forty-day period before Easter. (Sundays are skipped in counting the forty days, because Sundays commemorate the Resurrection.)
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, which is intended to be a time of self-denial, moderation, fasting, and the forsaking of sinful activities and habits.
