Liberating Practices: A Learning Community

A murmuration of birds fly against a pink sky. Superimposed on the field and tree landscape at the bottom of the image are the words Liberating Practices.

What practices move us toward liberation in our congregations? What practices deepen our collective commitment to beloved community within the congregation and in the world around us? No individual person or single congregation has all the answers to these questions, but when we explore them together we can deepen and enrich our knowledge, skills, and practices.

The Liberating Practices Learning Community includes a special email list and a monthly gathering on a particular theme. To join the community, all you have to do is sign up for the email list (Google form). Gatherings take place on Zoom, usually on weekday evenings. The majority of our time is spent in small group discussions of our theme with people from multiple congregations. We encourage you to attend as many gatherings as you can, but there is no expectation that you attend all the gatherings. Come when it works for you. You will need to register for each gathering individually so we can know how many to plan for.

Before each gathering you will receive an email message with a few small items to read, watch, or listen to along with reflection questions on the monthly theme. These will help you prepare for the gathering if you can come, and if not, they will help you engage the learning on your own or with a team from your congregation.

We hope you can join us!

Next Gathering

Tuesday, May 21 from 7:00 to 8:30pm ET - registration now open!
For our Liberating Practices gathering in May, we’re going to be trying something new. You’ve been asking for us to get more concrete in our conversations, so we’re going to be using a case study this month to practice thinking about how to rearrange, restructure, and reinvent “the way we’ve always done it.” Pre-work will include the whole case, with several versions to choose from based on congregation size.

Sign up to automatically receive the registration link and pre-work when it is available.
