Mail Bags & Love Letters

Part of Deeper Joy

Take aways may include: expressing your personality, giving and receiving kindness.

Parameters: 2 to infinity! Can be done at an in person gathering or event. Can also be done asynchronously.

Materials: In person: Paper lunch bags, arts and crafts supplies, writing/coloring/drawing materials, painters tape. Async: Manila envelopes, craft supplies, return address label and stamps.

In person:
Set up a table with these materials. Encourage people to make themselves a mailbag, decorating it with their names and representations of themselves. This is a great activity to do at the top of the event/gathering as people are getting used to the space and being together. Have wall-space available for the bags to be taped up, within reach. Throughout the event/gathering encourage people to fill one-another’s mailbags with messages of love and affirmation, presents, poems, cookies, etc. Identify peer leaders who can ensure everyone gets at least a few pieces of mail.

Async:
Send a manila envelope filled with craft supplies, return address label and stamps to each participant. Encourage them to write and decorate a note of affirmation or appreciation for each participant and mail it back to you. Organize and mail an envelope filled with their personal love notes back to them.
