Group Rhythm
Part of Deeper Joy
Themes: Practicing listening, choosing when to lead or follow, and coordinating as a group.
Participants: 4+, in person.
Sit in a circle and have one person start a repetitive, rhythmic sound. They can use their hands, feet, voices, anything. Other participants will each add another layer of sound.
Variation: Once everyone is making sounds, you have a variety of options: have one person be the director, telling folks to get softer or louder, silencing everyone then bringing in voices or sounds one at a time.
Variation: Use hand percussion instruments.
Liturgical variation: Introduce the activity as a Rhythm Prayer and invite people to express rhythmically what “please” or “thank you” sound like to them.
