Current Needs

Our Whole Lives for Grades 7-9, 3rd edition – UU Edition, Request for Proposals

Application Deadline: 5 p.m. ET, March 13, 2026

Expected Start Date: May 2026

Expected Completion Date: July 17, 2026 

Compensation: $35/hour for an estimated 25-35 hours

OWL for Grades 7-9, 3e UU Edition GOALS

  • Place the new, condensed 16-session Our Whole Lives secular sexuality education curriculum in the context of UU faith values.
  • Provide a foundation of UU history related to sexuality education, marriage rights, reproductive justice, and other sexuality-related issues.
  • Connect OWL values of Self-Worth, Responsibility, Sexual Health, Justice and Inclusion to UU values of Love, Interdependence, Pluralism, Justice, Transformation, Generosity, and Equity
  • Equip facilitators with rituals, discussion questions, and activities to support sexuality education as faith formation.

Consultant Requirements

  • Deep understanding of Unitarian Universalist values and youth faith formation.
  • Experience in writing curricula inclusive of the needs of Unitarian Universalists holding diverse identities and spiritual beliefs.
  • Comfort working with sexuality education curriculum.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with UUA staff. Progress check-in meetings every 2-4 weeks are required with the OWL Program Manager until the project is complete.
  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, and manage time well.
  • Skill and ability to develop experiential curriculum that reflects the Our Whole Lives values of Self-Worth, Responsibility, Sexual Health, Justice and Inclusivity.
  • NOTE: This work will not require writing sexuality education content; rather, your responsibility would be to provide faith content to be inserted within the secular material in areas you recommend placing it. Examples could include faith-specific readings, chalice lightings, discussion questions, recommended short videos, or brief activities.

Proposal Requirements

  • A cover letter including why you are interested in working on this project and your relevant professional qualifications. Include an explanation of how your unique “lens” as a curriculum developer and as a person familiar with the Our Whole Lives curriculum. Include your experience as a UU religious educator and/or as a Unitarian Universalist. In addition, include your availability to work on the curriculum from May through July 2026.
  • Include some examples of how you would incorporate UU faith values, rituals, readings, or other resources into the OWL for Grades 7-9 3e – UU edition. The workshops to be included in the new edition are:

Workshop Nine: Partnered Sexual Activity

Workshop Ten: Consent, Sexual Assault and Prevention

Workshop Eleven: Sexually Transmitted Infections

Workshop Twelve: Pregnancy, Options, Parenting

Workshop Thirteen: Sexual Decision Making

Workshop Fourteen: Communicating with a Sexual Partner

Workshop Fifteen: Sexuality, Social Media, and the Internet

Workshop Sixteen: Bullying, Witness Responsibilities, and Advocacy
