Desert Island
Part of Deeper Joy
Take aways may include: deeper understanding of each other, articulating what matters to you, learning about things that are new to you
Parameters: two or more people, in person or online
Materials for the variations: butcher paper, writing and drawing utensils, Wikki Stix and molding clay (in person), whiteboard or other “editable” space (online), a way to play music like a streaming service such as YouTube,
Ask your participants to imagine they’re heading to a desert island and can bring one physical, tangible item with them. Give them a moment to consider their choices, then invite each person to share, one at a time, what they would bring and why. For the next round, what form of entertainment would they bring. For the next round, what food would they bring. For the next round, what piece of clothing would they bring.
Variation: Invite folks to write, draw, add images or create tactile representations and make a collective desert island on the shared butcher paper or whiteboard. At the end, post or share the island with all its treasures.
Variation: Ask what song you would listen to on repeat on the desert island. Find that song on the music streamer and play it for the group. Create a Desert Island Playlist of everyone’s songs.
