UUs & The United Nations: Working Together To Disarm Our Planet
Our UU UNO Service on Sunday 01/28/2018 - featuring Bruce Knotts - was a huge success. Having Bruce as a guest is always energizing for our congregation and for our Envoy Team. The service included:
Music For Gathering: Eve of Destruction (instumental piano) by Barry McGuire
Call To Worship: Our Youth and Adult Envoys read excerpts from the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear weapons.
Chalice Lighting: The congregation joined our Youth Envoys in reading quotes from Dag Hammarskjold and Antonio Guterres
“The United Nations was not created to take mankind to heaven, but to save humanity from hell.”
“There are no miracles... The only way for us to achieve our goals is to work as a team.... Let us draw strength from the values of inclusion, tolerance, and mutual understanding that are at the heart of all major faiths and the United Nations Charter."
Message for All: Enemies by Rev. Christopher Buice
Reflection: An excerpt from THE DRONE EATS WITH ME by Atef Abu Saif
The USNH Choir sang DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE
Our Youth Envoys shared some of the history of the UU UNO and introduced Bruce Knotts, sharing some of his background and accomplishments.
Bruce delivered a rousing sermon!
Benediction: Our Youth Envoys borrowed a quote from John Murray, encouraging the congregation to go out into the world and "...to bring more light and understanding to the hearts and minds of men and women. Give them kindness and love. Give them not hell, but hope and courage."
