Redwing Blackbird

A singing bird on a branch, silhouetted against a red and orange sunrise

Blackbird pours her liquid song
in a stream down my hair and face.
I look up and experience her music
as a Beatitude of Peace,
a feathery sonnet that rings
of grace and hope, of finding amidst loss
and the way love shapes itself to both
of us, human and avian, like water held
in a holy vessel.

Let us give over to each other
all our dreams that wear courage
and conviction among the trials and storms.
Let us discover how to love one another
like Redwing Blackbird loves her
watery song.
