Charge to the Moderator Search Committee

The Moderator Search Committee is charged with finding candidates to be nominated for election as UUA Moderator at the 2025 General Assembly. The Moderator’s term shall begin at the close of General Assembly 2025 and end at the close of General Assembly 2031.

In seeking candidates for nomination, the Moderator Search Committee shall consider an Applicant’s skills and experience relevant to perform the duties of Moderator. The Committee shall also consider the Applicant’s:

  • commitment to Unitarian Universalism, evidenced by service in UU bodies beyond their own congregation
  • enthusiasm for the mission of the UUA
  • commitment to dismantling white supremacy in our Association
  • ability to work collaboratively with other UUs from a wide variety of background and identities
  • facilitation skills
  • commitment to collaboratively leading the UUA into the future

The Committee is charged with publicizing the Search for Moderator(s) throughout the Association, including, but not limited to:

  • member congregations and covenanted communities
  • UU professional groups
  • UU identity groups

The Committee is free to determine its own process, including screening applications, conducting interviews, etc. The Search Committee shall also conduct reference checks and the UUA will conduct background checks prior to the submission of names to the UUA Board for consideration.

The Committee may propose an individual applicant or applicants for the position of Moderator to the Board. Co-Moderator Teams may apply together, as a team.

The Moderator Search Committee shall make its recommendations to the UUA Board no later than October 15, 2024.
