  • A recording of Susan Werner's song, "(why is your) heaven so small" from her CD The Gospel Truth (2007, Sleeve Dog Records), and a music player

Preparation for Activity

  • Download or obtain the MP3 file or CD, and test the music player.

Description of Activity

Universalism is associated with the idea of a generous and bountiful heaven, whether in a time to come or here on earth. Heaven can also be a rich metaphor for a time and place when we each might be surrounded by all we regard as good and true. Liten to Susan Werner's song together, and then reflect on these questions:

  • When is it easiest for you to imagine a "generous heaven?"
  • When is it the hardest?
