Discussion Guides for Breathe: A Letter to My Sons by Imani Perry

Breathe: A Letter to My Sons explores the terror, grace, and beauty of coming of age as a Black person in contemporary America and what it means to parent our children in a persistently unjust world.

The UUA's 2020-21 Common Read discussion guide for Breathe (PDF, 53 pages), written by UU religious educator Rayla D. Mattson, offers two plans: one for use by a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) UU group, the other for any congregational group. Both plans invite groups to choose a one- or three-session program, with sessions lasting 90 minutes.
