At the MidAmerica Regional Assembly on April 18, 2020, our Keynote Speaker Taquiena Boston, Special Advisor to the UUA President on Equity, Inclusion, and Change, asked these questions in her keynote address:

  • Who or what are you holding in your heart at this moment?
  • What inequities have become more visible to you as a result of COVID-19?
  • What are your losses?
  • What must you release (identity, assumptions, beliefs, ways of being or doing?)
  • What new or emergent possibilities have been revealed?

Her presentation included this quote by Creative Reaction Labs, “Systems of oppression, inequalities and inequities are by design. Shouldn’t we use design to dismantle them?”

This quote and her questions are an excellent resource for your next virtual small group or coffee hour discussion. What do they mean for you, your congregation, and community at this time?
