Letting Go of A Beloved Building

Part of Congregational Life Cycles

By Darcey Elizabeth Hegvik Laine

Our buildings connect us to our history, and are special and unique spaces that provide a home for our communities. But with these blessings come the challenges of maintaining older buildings, and adapting them for today's needs. This is especially a challenge for congregations who are now smaller than when their buildings were built. What if the space we need to live our mission no longer matches the building we own? Could our building find a new calling?

In this webinar, recorded on October 25, 2023, Rev. Darcey Line, whose congregation recently sold their historic building, facilitates. Rev. Rosemarie Newberry shares about the closing of the Queens, NY congregation. Athens and Sheshequin Congregation president Katie Replogle shared about selling their historic Sheshequin Universalist Church building, and Rev. Ann Marie Alderman will share their stories about donating the Plainfield, NJ building to the city.
