Self-Assessment Exercise for Committees and Ministry Teams

Based on Patrick Lencioni's book The Advantage: Why Organizational Health Trumps Everything Else, this team self-assessment will help your team work toward building trust, mastering conflict, meeting commitments, holding each other mutually accountable, and focusing on shared goals.

Activity

  1. Have everyone on your team complete the Congregational Leadership Team Assessmen (pdf) and score it using the key on the back.
  2. Aggregate the scores for each of the 5 Behaviors. (See illustration at right.)
  3. See where your team's strengths and growth areas are. Use the strategies on the Congregational Leadership Team Assessment to create or amend your bteam covenant.
  4. Consider revisiting your progress mid-year by repeating this exercise and comparing the aggregate team scores.
