Describing the trip, Lois Cole, director of religious education at the UU Society... emphasized the benefits of young Americans traveling to and doing service in developing countries to broaden their perspectives. "Cultural barriers are crossed in such an immersion experience. I think we had the realization that there was a shared humanity there, that we all had common desires. Also, our youth have so many opportunities in Iowa, and I think after visiting Guatemala, they became more appreciative about what they have."Find the full article online.
