UUA-UUSC Japan Fund Supports Religious Partners After Quake

The March 11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated the northeast coast of Japan killed more than 12,000 people. Rev. Eric Cherry, director of the UUA's International Resources office, was in Japan recently to meet with the partner groups. He said many members of these groups were directly affected by the disasters. “The Rissho Kosei-kai itself has 35 to 40 congregations that have been damaged terribly.' As of April 8, Unitarian Universalists had donated $200,000 to Japanese relief efforts. Decisions about how to use these funds will be made in cooperation with our partners, Cherry said.
