How Wave Cohorts Work

On Saturday June 20th, all GA participants are invited to Meet the Moment by joining a Wave Cohort! Wave Cohorts bring together a group of engaged people to have a focused experience on a particular topic- not a workshop, not a webinar, but a shared, dynamic multi-directional flow. These three-hour Waves will happen LIVE, either on Zoom or in person at the GA Studio Site in Louisville, and offer all GA participants the opportunity to join with others to go deep on a topic of their choice- building collective understandings about the moment we are in and practicing shared, values-based discernment about how we can Meet the Moment: Together Everywhere!

These Waves will be facilitated by teams of skilled leaders, with deep knowledge and experience of the topic, who are ready to guide the Cohort through our three Meet the Moment Grounding Questions, as they related to their topic:

  • What Is the Moment We Are In?
    • Characteristics, realities, and trends that are shaping the world around us
  • What Are the Urgent Needs and Important Opportunities of This Moment?
    • Opportunities, challenges, and barriers that are created by the moment we’re in
  • What Do Our Shared Values Call Us To Do in This Moment?
    • Defining our lane and our charge—what are we most compelled, equipped, and/or positioned to do?

Saturday, June 20, 2026

  • Meet the Moment: Opening Program
    EDT: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
    CDT: 10:00 – 11:00 am
    MDT: 9:00 – 10:00 am
    PDT: 8:00 – 9:00 am
We begin Saturday with a shared virtual experience for all participants. The Opening Program will introduce Meet the Moment as a movement-wide framework that calls Unitarian Universalists to shared analysis-building, collective discernment, and faithful action in response to today’s shifting cultural, generational, political, and religious realities. Together we will reflect on the ways our tradition has always been both grounded in core values and open to transformation, and we will prepare our spirits for the day of learning ahead.
  • Meet the Moment: Breakout Groups
    EDT: 1:30 – 4:30 pm
    CDT: 12:30 – 3:30 pm
    MDT: 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
    PDT: 10:30 am – 1:30 pm
Following the Opening Program, participants will join Wave Cohorts, with options to participate virtually or locally, for deeper engagement with the practices of Meet the Moment. There will be several Wave Cohorts in each setting to choose from, focused on a particular topic that is critical to Unitarian Universalism in this Moment. Each Wave Cohort will guide participants through a Meet the Moment process, analyzing the Moment we are in, identifying the needs and opportunities of this Moment, and using our shared values to identify ways we can Meet the Moment, together. We will consider what it means to let go of what no longer serves, embrace new possibilities, and act with courage and love in changing times.
  • Meet the Moment: Wrap-Up Session
    EDT: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
    CDT: 4:00 – 5:00 pm
    MDT: 3:00 – 4:00 pm
    PDT: 2:00 – 3:00 pm
We close our Meet the Moment programming by coming together for a virtual Wrap-Up Session that gathers the wisdom, insights, and commitments arising from our Wave Cohort experiences. This time of collective reflection will help us weave connections across the movement and carry forward what we are learning about how Unitarian Universalists can faithfully Meet this Moment, together everywhere.
