Tools to Help You Meet the Moment
We hope you will use the Meet the Moment framework in your own congregation or community! We offer two different facilitation templates for your use, each of which offer a way for groups who are discerning “What should we do about ____” a structure to move through building shared analysis, surfacing needs and opportunities, and engaging our values to do prioritization and discernment about next steps.
Who the Meet the Moment Framework Is For
Any group that shares a common charge, mission, or body of work may find the Meet the Moment framework useful. The one- and three-session templates can be used to help newer or less-cohesive teams in discerning what their work is together, or to support well-established teams in discerning new, faithful approaches to specific issues or challenges they are facing. Some ways you might use these templates in your context include:
- Bringing all your committee leaders together for the one-session workshop to focus on the congregation as a whole. Those leaders then use the three-session series with all congregational teams to help each group determine their goals and priorities for the next church year using a shared format and process.
- Encouraging a specific congregational group or team that is feeling “stuck” in their work, taking on a new charge, or grappling with how to focus their work to use the framework to build clarity and cohesion. The (Ministerial Search Team, Board of Trustees, Religious Education Committee, Capital Campaign Taskforce, etc.) goes through the three-session program and reports back to the leadership or congregation as a way of defining and transparently sharing about how they are going to do their work together.
- Inviting your local multifaith organizing coalition to engage the process as you work to build relationships and discern your shared work.

- Three 90-minute sessions that allow folks to really dig into the Meet the Moment framework and the three Grounding Questions as a way of looking at a particular topic or area of congregational life.
Templates are detailed and easy-to-use for less experienced facilitators, while leaving ample room for adaptation and customization for your specific context.
