Define the Moment

Building Shared Analysis Through Data

As Unitarian universalism adjusts to the new realities of this moment, what are the challenges and opportunities facing our faith? To collaboratively and intentionally move toward a future in which Unitarian Universalism is vibrant, life-giving, and impactful, we need to understand the landscape we are currently navigating.

The Meet the Moment framework begins with the question, “What is the moment we are in?” To answer this — for the faith, for a congregation, for a leadership body — we have to begin by building shared analysis, including looking at available data.

At the broadest level, the UUA collects Congregational Certification Data about certain aspects of our congregations each year. But our professional associations, credentialing bodies, congregations, and other formations also have pieces of the story in data form. Meet the Moment seeks to create a container for sharing and storying this data together as a starting place as we ask how we should respond to the moment we’re in.

Each year, leaders in our congregations faithfully fill out an extensive questionnaire detailing the varied metrics we track in our lives together. From worship attendance to membership growth, religious education enrollment to budget numbers, join UUA staff from across several departments to hear the stories this data tells — and the questions it raises — about the moment Unitarian Universalism is in.
