An Invitation from the UU Congregation of Salem, OR

he Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem, Oregon is a religious home for those who seek a religious community that will accept and honor you as you are. Spiritual and religious coercion is not our way. Rather, we provide a community where we support and encourage one another in our continuing spiritual, intellectual and personal development. In short, we think our tagline says it all: Diverse people. Diverse beliefs. One community.

About the Space

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem building is conveniently located at the intersection of Center Street and Cordon Road.

Hanneman Hall is the large fellowship hall named for one of our founding members.

We have a Memorial Garden for quiet reflection, and to memorialize with a plaque those who have died. It is just east of the Sanctuary.

While there are no dining options in the immediate vicinity of our building, a main road and shopping area provides a variety of options five minutes away, from local restaurants to major chains to a local grocery store.

Our downtown offers a variety of local restaurants, parks, shops and more to explore, just fifteen minutes from the church. Our state capitol grounds and the adjacent Willamette University campus offer additional spaces to connect with nature, and on Saturday the Salem Saturday Farmers’ Market brings together offerings from 200+ local vendors along with live music, activities for kids, and a dining area with seating.

The tall, peaked, sanctuary space holds a large stained glass display across 12 window sections. The glass depicts a flaming chalice in browns and golds, with blues and purples surrounding. Natural light and trees are visible through the flanking windows, and round, modern chandeliers are also visible.

What’s Included Onsite

We welcome UUs to join us in Oregon’s capitol city of Salem, in the heart of the Willamette Valley, for General Assembly gatherings! This opportunity for connection, conversation, and relationship-building will take place amidst the beauty of June in our area. We’ll gather in our sanctuary, with its distinctive flaming chalice stained glass window and newly upgraded video wall, have opportunities to share coffee, tea, and conversation in our spacious fellowship hall, and join in small group conversations to meet the moment together. Our commitments to accessibility and inclusion are manifested in our step-free building, moveable configurations of chairs, fragrance-free cleaning practices, single-stall all gender restrooms and our full kitchen to help support options for many dietary needs. We know we’re better together and we plan accordingly!

Parking and Transportation

The UU Congregation of Salem is located on the outskirts of the city, nestled against forested land and farms as well as homes. Our campus is best reached by car or rideshare.

Parking is available in our dedicated paved lot, with overflow parking available across the road in a gravel lot if needed.

Bike racks are also available in the main parking lot, across from the front entrance.

Our Google Maps link offers you door-to-door directions for driving, walking, biking, or public transit.

Accessibility

Upon arrival, attendees will find a mostly accessible building all on a single level, although we do not yet have automatic door openers. We are a fragrance-free facility and can provide ASL interpretation upon advance request. We have two single stall restrooms as well as those with multiple stalls.

All areas of the building are wheelchair accessible. Access to the patio and grounds is along paved paths with ramps available. Accessible parking spaces are available near the building. We provide assistive listening devices for people who attend services in person.
