An Invitation from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham, AL

Whoever you are, whoever you love, wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome here.

About the Space

Our building, built in 2004 for our civil rights era congregation, sits on 13 acres of land, with an ample parking lot and modern amenities. Our sanctuary holds 275 people, with vibrant natural light and outdoor tables and benches for lunches and breaks. While our building is very modern, our historic congregation was formed during the civil rights movement in Alabama, and our ties to that heritage continue to inspire and move the congregation today.

Our seating involves comfortable padded chairs which can be rearranged as needed, and we have two side rooms with couches for other types of seating or breaks. Our downstairs classrooms and meeting rooms provide even more spaces for break out rooms and small group discussions.

A view from the back of the UU Birmingham sanctuary space. There are rows of padded chairs with wide aisles. The ceiling is light wood with dark wood beams, forming a geometric pattern. The is a pulpit in the front with a stacked stone wall behind it. Outside, green trees are visible through the windows

What’s Included Onsite

While we are still working out the details of what we will provide, we will certainly have opportunities to watch the livestream together, host facilitated conversations and discussions (one will certainly include southern UUs uniting for social justice witness), social time, southern hospitality with refreshments. We will also provide opportunities to attend local civil rights monuments and museums for folks who are interested.

Parking and Transportation

Our congregation is located near an interstate and we have ample, well-lit, private, free parking for everyone. We also hope to have folks to help with rides and will have limited home hospitality available. Public transportation is available but the hill to our church is steep so rideshare would be best.
