Do

Take some time to make a drawing (or other simple art piece- playdoh sculpture, painting, pipe cleaner structure, etc) that captures a piece or feeling of your radical dream. Share your creation with someone else and be inspired to take action towards a safer future for all.

In her essay “So You’re Thinking About Becoming an Abolitionist,” Mariame Kaba closes with the question: what can we imagine for ourselves and the world? As in the video “A Message From the Future,” for some activists, creating art is one way to bring these visions to life. This practice of using art to envision new realities is sometimes known as “artivism.” Artivism as a concept has its roots in the work of Chicano artists from Los Angeles and the Zapatistas in Chiapas, Mexico. Channel your inner artivist and create something that includes a bit of your imagining of what a world beyond policing and the carceral system could look like.
