Commissioned Lay Ministry Commissioning Process

Once the CLM candidate has completed their training and is ready to be commissioned as a CLM, this is the procedure to follow:

The candidate should download the commissioning documents from the website (see below).

The candidate and the mentor will verify that the reading list has been completed.

The candidate will complete the self-evaluation.

The mentor will complete a written evaluation/recommendation.

The covenant partner will compete a written evaluation/recommendation.

The candidate will confer with the mentor and covenant partner that the experiential component is complete.

The candidate and the congregational board will create a letter of agreement for the CLM.

The candidate and the covenant partner will create a covenant.

Submit all paperwork to Beth Casebolt at bcasebolt@uua.org. This includes:

Once all the materials are received, the CLM Council reviews the packet and schedules an interview, which may be online or in person.

The candidate prepares a brief presentation for the Council for the interview.

The interview is held either online or in person.

If the CLM Council requests additional information, the candidate follows through with this request.

If the CLM Council approves, then the council notifies the candidate, covenant partner, board and mentor that the candidate is ready for commissioning.

The CLM Council provides guidance on commissioning ritual if desired.

The congregation then commissions the candidate in the commissioning ritual. The candidate should request that the peer group be present. The region and the UUA should be acknowledged in this program.
