John Haynes Holmes Memorial Fellowships

The John Haynes Holmes Memorial Fellowships honor Dr. John Haynes Holmes, who served as Senior Minister of the Community Church of New York from 1907–1949. A nationally prominent social activist, Dr. Holmes was a founding member of the NAACP and the ACLU.

The John Haynes Holmes Memorial Fund, established in 1968, provides annual grants for Unitarian Universalist seminarians enrolled full time or part time at a post-secondary institution. Students must be preparing for careers in ministry or teaching in the denomination. Awards are based on both academic ability and financial need.

For the annual Fellowship grants we offer, we “open” applications every year on Feb. 15th.

The application deadline for available grants is April 15th for the following academic year.
