“No Sermon Necessary” Worship Ideas

Taken from a balcony looking down, people enter a Unitarian church building with red carpet. They are entering wooden pews with hymnals in their arms.

Whether your congregation is lay led or whether you have a professional minister (maybe you are the professional minister!), it’s not always easy to fill the worship schedule... and ministers may not feel called to preach a sermon every Sunday.

Thanks to a small group of Unitarian Universalist clergy, this document (PDF) will help you create meaningful, interactive services that don’t center around a sermon.

While some of their suggestions require more preparation and teamwork than others, we hope that UU worship leaders find inspiration from our “No Sermon Necessary” packet.
