Last January, the UUA offered empty commercial space at its headquarters to the state as a free temporary overnight shelter. Roderick, Angela, and their young child are among those granted haven there.

The temporary space, which opened in early March, is expected to accommodate eighty people nightly when at full capacity.

Amid a shortage of available shelters across the state, the sixth floor of the UUA's building at 24 Farnsworth Street could serve as a short-term, overnight haven for newcomers in need of aid.
