Plans to upgrade the theme?
I notice it’s been more than two years since the last update to the theme. Are there any plans for updates in 2023?

Came here to ask this, because the current version is incompatible with PHP 8. Will there be updates for compatibility?
The theme is compatible with PHP 8.0. I have it running on several servers.
I’ve tried updating my congregation website (using the UUA theme, hosted on Dreamhost) to PHP 8 a couple of times, and each time received compatibility errors and was forced to roll it back. I do not have the knowledge required to check/update the code myself. I have no idea what to do.
I tried to reply by e-mail.
I am having the same issue (different theme). I think the strategy is to disable all plug-ins and, if the theme does not cause a conflict (in which case one knows what needs fixing, disturbingly, but I believe that the UUA theme is O.K.), enabling plug-ins one at a time until one creates a problem should find the culprit; then check with that developer or look for a substitute. I have no idea what to do if one needs a substitute plug-in.
Thank you for the advice! I saw elsewhere that the Testimonials plugin might be the problem, and so I disabled it and tried again, and sure enough, the update was successful.
If any other webmasters using the UUA theme are having the same problem I suggest trying the same.
Make sure all your plugins and the theme are updated to the latest version.
Try the PHP 8 again.
If it doesn’t work, call your website host and ask them to help.
Let them know that the latest version of the theme works with PHP 8 for many many people
Thanks for your help! It turned out to be the Testimonials plugin that was the problem. Fortunately, we weren’t really using it.
Well, the post that had a lot of action yesterday (it is now past midnight on the 26th) does not seem to be taking comments. Apparently there was a survey done by the UUA about the 2.0 upgrade, via the “UUA mailing list”—does anyone know what list that is? Did I miss something on websters, or is it the general congregational list, which is meaningless to me as I never see anything sent to our society that way. I have asked time and time again (well, at least a few times through official channels) for a sign-up list for us members who are not the anointed representative of our CFS (congregation/fellowship/society) but try to follow UUA activity despite not hearing anything through official channels. The closest we got—and it was a major step forward, much appreciated—is discuss.uua.org, but it is closed most of the year, opened only before and during GA, shut down immediately after. This platform would be good, if the survey had also been posted here… .
Sally,
Yeah, odd that other post is closed for comments. I am in the same situation as you are, I didn’t see the survey, but I’d certainly like to know more about what is planned. I thought this was supposed to be the right place for that discussion. I’m glad something is being done though. We would have upgraded to something else already except that our communication committee chair moved away, and he was the driving force behind wanting to do that.
Same question here. I don’t recall seeing anything. I wonder if it went to the Admins list for church administrators. I have looked around a couple of times and not found a good way to get in touch with people interested in such things.
I did find the UU Website Lab Facebook group, and while I am not a fan of using Facebook for such things, it’s the best I found. The Websters distribution list hasn’t had any traffic in almost a year.
I am subscribed to websters, but most of what I do these days is for nonUU groups using other WordPress themes, so I rarely post there. I joined a few decades ago when I was part of maintaining a DotNetNuke site for [nameless UU society] of Bergen County (then in Paramus, N.J.), which was taken down without notice when someone at a higher level decided we needed a redesign by a professional. With that level of disrespect, I decided to contribute to the society in other ways. I stay subscribed there and to this discussion because I can occasionally pick up or share a useful tip.
Quick note to say that a new UU WP theme designed to give congregations a solid foundation to build from is coming. We’re still very much in development mode, but we’ll be ready to start sharing more in the coming months.
