How to customize a search box
I have found very little WordPress documentation for setting up and configuring a search box and most of what I have found doesn't match my site so I presume it was written for older, perhaps 3.n versions of WordPress (I'm running 4.9.8). And I haven't even found a mention in the UUA theme pages. I created a search template and created an empty page using the template. What I get is a bare bones search box, works fine but looks ugly and the search button is misplaced and non-functional. Click on https://macuuf.org/search/ to see what I mean.
I would like to perhaps change the background from white to something else and perhaps add some interesting links. I also want the search button to the immediate right of the box and switch from a button containing the word "search" to some sort of yet to be determined button icon. But I have no idea where to find any documentation on how to do that. Can anyone help?
Thanks,

Hi Rob– it sounds like you're asking for custom development and restyling of the theme's search form and/or search results template.
First, I highly recommend you apply any custom development and CSS in a child-theme to avoid losing these changes when the UUA Theme is updated.
Second, check out the following documentation about creating a search template in WordPress: https://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Search_Page
Lastly, if you're not confident developing a child-theme and writing custom code to change the style and functionality of the site, you could hire Vess Studio to help with this request.
