Learning Experiences, Competencies, Lenses and Reflective Essays – Overview

Learning Experiences

Advanced Level candidates are required to take 6 Sparks Modules or other pre-approved trainings, which includes up to one OWL Facilitator training.

One of these learning experiences must be a pre-approved Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression, Multiculturalism Training or Immersive Experience. Approved options include:

  • Virtual or in-person training options ran by the Race Forward organization. Each training is the length of about 1/2 of a Sparks module, so you would need to take two different trainings to meet the requirement — one likely being the Building Racial Equity foundational skills training and then a 2nd training of your choosing to deepen understanding and grow skills. Their trainings are on a sliding scale starting at $50 each, so they are also financially accessible.
  • The Racial Equity Institute’s 2-day training, one of which meets the credentialing requirement for an ARAOMC learning experience. These trainings are more expensive, though there is a scholarship option, as well as the UUA and LREDA scholarships and grants available to help off-set costs.
  • The Leading UU Culture Change Sparks Module
  • Jubilee Training

Additionally, for those of us who are BIPOC+, attendance at either of the below meet the requirement:

Candidates should seek approval for other trainings by contacting the Professional Development Programs Manager.
