Safer Use of Tapestry of Faith Webinar

Safer Use of Tapestry of Faith Webinar

Designed for religious education professionals, committees, and volunteers, this 90 minute recorded webinar will:

  • help participants understand the challenges and risks involved, if they choose to use archived ToF material
  • equip them to plan and discern in ways that reduce that risk
  • explore how to respond faithfully when harm and hurt arise
  • be aware of options to consider instead of ToF

First, we cover the concept of explicit, implied, and null curriculum, and review examples of the main issues we now understand ToF to have, applying that learning to ensure developmental readiness for the next part of our time together.

We talk a little about our attempt to respond to the problems in ToF by adapting and updating — preparing users to notice potential issues and consider whether they may want to modify materials. This element is something of an object lesson in how to engage a “technical” approach — and how to know if it’s enough. We share how and why we decided that kind of technical fix missed the mark, in order to support participants in their own discernment about whether to choosenot to use ToF.

We include input from educators on their own understanding of the “big picture” concepts and suggestions on applying an adaptive, rather than technical approach.

We encourage participants to consider more current resources where appropriate.
