Geography of the Self
Part of Deeper Joy Map & Games
Themes: Mapping personal boundaries and sharing personal details and dynamics.
Participants: Any number, in person or online.
Materials: Paper, markers.
Have each person draw an outline of their hand, then turn the hand into a map. Invite brief prompts as they draw: Where are boundaries? Populated areas and city centers? Deserts, rivers, mountain ranges, cliffs, rain forests? Any territories in tension? Main roads and uncharted lands? Encourage labels, symbols, and simple sketches. Online groups can annotate a shared slide or whiteboard. When finished, offer the option to display them and share about them. Remind participants to share only what feels comfortable and to receive others’ maps with curiosity and care.
Variation: Create a shared geography of the group.
