UUism & the UN: Offering youth a role in shaping the world
The UN Sunday Service at First Parish in Bedford Mass was held on Sunday October 20th. The title of the service was UUism & the United Nations: Offering our youth a role in shaping the world" presented by guest UN Envoys Pablo deVos-Deak & his father P.J Deakfrom the Unitarian Society of New Haven. They were accompanied in their “Time for All Ages” story by Pablo’s mom Lurline DeVos. In his sermon, Pablo shared his experience as this past year’s Senior Dean at the UNO Intergenerational Seminar, whose theme focused on Gender Equity. Pablo’s Dad, PJ Deak, talked how the UNO Intergenerational Seminar empowered youth and connected them with the important work of the United Nations. During the service, an offering was taken in support of the UU Office at the United Nations. Later, Pablo met with First Parish Senior Youth and Lurline and PJ met with adult members of the congregation. The service was roundly applauded by First Parish members, and expressed their thanks to Pablo, PJ and Lurline for sharing their perspectives on the UNO.
