Ministerial Residency - Supervisor Supervisor

The supervisor is responsible for guiding the ministerial resident in their ministry. If there is a conflict that arises between the congregation and resident over differences in expectation and delivery of ministerial services, the supervising minister will be responsible for receiving the congregation’s feedback and supporting the ministerial resident, including when necessary to share with the congregation that their expectations cannot or should not be met in the ways they expect.

Qualifications of the Supervisor

Ministerial residents are required to have a supervising minister who is approved by the Ministerial Credentialing Director. The requirements for a supervising minister are:

  • In Full fellowship
  • In good standing with Ministries and Faith Development and Congregational Life
  • Active member of the UUMA
  • Supervisory experience
  • Have taken, or commit to taking, the UUMA Mentor training
  • Able to develop a good working relationship with the Ministerial Resident and provide feedback on their ministry.

Expectations of the Supervisor

The supervisor is responsible for,

  • Guiding the ministerial resident in their ministry.
  • Participating in a one hour per week supervision session.
  • Holding one hour per week available to meet with the congregation’s board, regional staff, or for other meetings as needed.
  • Continuing weekly meetings with the resident, even if the candidate receives MFC approval during the year.
  • Receiving the congregation’s feedback and supporting the ministerial resident if conflict arises between the congregation and resident over differences in expectation and delivery of ministerial services. This includes, when necessary, sharing with the congregation that their expectations cannot or should not be met in the ways they expect.

The supervisor is compensated by the congregation as a 1099 contractor. The recommended stipend is $11,880 (geo index 1-2), $13,200 (geo index 3-4), and $14,520 (geo index 5-7).
