Lifting Up Activism on Climate Change... and consequences of Mass Incarceration

Tim DeChristopher recently appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to talk about the documentary Bidder 70 – the story of DeChristopher's civil disobedience disrupting a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) auction of mineral rights on protected Federal land. In the interview, DeChristopher explains why he chose a confrontational approach to creating awareness of the dangers of climate change, and the opportunity it presents for an educated activist citizenry to promote positive change in society. Letterman asks how DeChristopher feels about the consequences of his act and is surprised when DeChristopher says the 21 months he spent in a federal jail were not as bad as expected. Letterman exclaims, "Now that can't possibly be true", and DeChristopher replies, "...a consequence of (the policy of) mass incarceration is that our prisons are filled with really normal people."
