The Way Out
In order to get out
I must go throughThere is no other way.
No other way?
But there must be another way,
an easier path, a well-lit road.
I cast about, scan the horizon—
No other way.
The way out is the way through.
The way through is the way hard.
Beset behind and before,
a heavy hand laid upon me.
Pass one trial, meet another,
leap one hurdle, run against another.
No turning back, no detours—
no other way.
Lord, how long?
As long as it takes to get me there.
Going down to go up,
Approaching heaven via hell,
No other way.
The only way out is through.
