First Fire, First Water
As we light our chalice, we are reminded of the First Fire,
The divine spark of inspiration and creation;
The Big Bang, the spoken word, the start of love eternal.
As its flame fills our world with light and life,
Water, then, receives it.
Fire lifts us up and invigorates us with purpose,
While Water helps us settle down into being.
When light touches water, it reflects, refracts, and disperses.
Water lets us feel and know what it is to be alive.
Water sinks into our cracks and fills us from our lowest parts.
May the First Water, in our first cup of communion,
Invite us to change and stability
And the remembrance of all the love it washes over us.
