WCC Study/Action
By UU Church of Oak Cliff, Dallas, TX
March thru May 2021-- Several congregants met (via Zoom) for a 12-week study & exploration of the Widening the Circle of Concern report, facilitated by our Vice-President.
Spring Parish Meeting-- After much thoughtful discussion and viewing of a presentation by our VP, the congregation voted to accept the following affirmation:
"We the Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff commit ourselves to the study and dismantling of racism and oppression within our congregation. We commit our congregation and ourselves to the work of anti-racism and anti-oppression. We commit ourselves to listening, to learning and to action. When we fail, we commit ourselves to trying again and again. We covenant to begin this work and to continue until *all* of us can truly say that that we are a beloved community of justice, equity and compassion.
Because we desire accountability in this work, and because we desire to support and encourage other congregations to take up this work, we vote to add our congregation to the online map of congregations committed to Widening the Circle of Concern."
Another action item included in the VP's presentation urged that we study the proposed 8th principal of UU with the goal of adopting it at Spring Parish Meeting in 2022.
June/July 2021-- We'll be kicking off a new WCC study group offering soon, with some changes to the format that we hope will make the process as accessible as possible.
