Walking Our Faith
By Vanessa Rush Southern
On November 6th, in the heart of downtown San Francisco, more than fifteen Unitarian Universalist (UU) clergy and many lay leaders from nearby congregations came together for Walking Our Faith: A Vigil of Prayer and Caring, organized by Wall of Clergy and Faith in Action East Bay.
The gathering began at the San Francisco Immigration Courts on Montgomery Street and made its way to the ICE facility on Sansome Street — a place where immigration hearings are held and where people are being detained and/or arrested.
Rev. Deborah Lee of the Interfaith Movement for Human Integrity lifted up the work of several area UU congregations who regularly volunteer as faith witnesses outside the Sansome facility. Their presence brings visibility and moral accountability to what is happening inside, offering a powerful act of compassion and solidarity.
