MFD Director Announcement
The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is pleased to announce that the Association has named Rev. Dr. Rebekah Savage as the UUA’s next Director of Ministries and Faith Development. Savage will assume the role full-time on April 6th.
“I have had the distinct privilege to experience Rebekah’s ministry in multiple contexts and am clear that she is held in profoundly high regard and is truly what we have long called a minister’s minister – someone who is trusted to support, encourage, and partner with religious professional colleagues of all types across a range of needs,” said Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, the UUA’s President. “I believe Rebekah will bring a depth of spirit, love for this faith, keen organizational mind, and highly relational leadership to this role. I am excited for all that is to come.”
Rev. Dr. Rebekah Savage was most recently Senior Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Rockville, Maryland, and has served various ministerial roles in that congregation since 2015. She became involved with ministry while at Union Theological Seminary in New York City during her second year there. After the events of September 11, 2001, she felt drawn to military chaplaincy. She was ordained a Unitarian Universalist minister in June 2003, then commissioned as a military chaplain shortly after. Since becoming a military chaplain, Rev. Savage has spent the majority of her career on active duty and completed one overseas tour in Afghanistan.
She has a Masters in Divinity and Pastoral Theology from Union Theological Seminary. In 2007, she also completed a Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2014. She completed Clinical Pastoral Education at a large hospital in Miami, Florida and her internship at the Boca Raton Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Boca Raton, Florida. Additionally, Rev. Rebekah completed her Doctorate of Ministry in Military Chaplaincy at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC in May 2020.
Rebekah was a co-chair of the UUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee from December 2019 to May 2025 and is active in many collegial support and study groups.
“I am humbled and delighted to join the UUA’s remarkable team and to serve in this vital role for our faith,” said Rev. Rebekah.
