UUA and DRUUMM Renew Partnership

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and Diverse and Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM) announce a commitment to renew the partnership between the two organizations. Significant, ongoing support for DRUUMM is essential for Unitarian Universalism to live up to its commitment to dismantling white supremacy culture and creating a community where people of all identities are able to thrive. DRUUMM needs additional capacity, as a currently all-volunteer organization, to live its mission as a place of support for UU people of color.

In response to a request from DRUUMM at the October meeting of the UUA Board of Trustees, the UUA has made an immediate $50,000 contribution to DRUUMM. DRUUMM and the UUA are committed to working on a plan for long-term financial and organizational support, reporting back on these discussions at the January Board meeting.

This commitment acknowledges the history of fractured relationship between the two organizations and the harm this fracture has caused people of color within Unitarian Universalism. Together, the UUA and DRUUMM are working to rebuild relationship between the two organizations to be mutually supportive and in service of liberation in our faith.

About DRUUMM

DRUUMM is a Unitarian Universalist People of Color Ministry and anti-racist collective bringing lay and religious professionals together to overcome racism through resistance and transform Unitarian Universalism through our multicultural experiences. We developed from several older ministries, namely the African American UU Ministries and Jubilee World anti-racism change trainings.

DRUUMM has a growing membership of UU People of Color from every district and region. As an all-volunteer ministry, DRUUMM continues to lead efforts to fulfill the Journey Towards Wholeness Resolution towards becoming an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, multicultural UUA, creating space for youth, young adult and our families of color to heal and work collectively, and steward an effective organization that develops new leadership and manages consistent communication with members.
