May 2026 Updates
Greetings across the distance! This month, we’re highlighting the results of our Wave Cohort, Global Accessibility Awareness Day, and the recording of April’s UPLIFT Access Resource Webinar about making your congregation’s shared meals more accessible.
Last Fall, I, along with my co-facilitators Rev. Dr. Kimi Floyd Reisch, and Kaden Colton conducted the UPLIFT Access Wave Cohort, as part of the UUA’s Meet the Moment framework. We invited a group of Unitarian Universalists who are disabled, chronically ill, and/or neurodivergent from across the faith to join together for deep sharing, co-learning, and collective dreaming. Members grappled with questions about the moment we’re in from their perspective as disabled UUs. The process and results of this wave are outlined in this “Message in a Bottle.” If you’ll be attending General Assembly next month, be sure to check out our on-demand webinar, “Meeting the Moment with the Disabled Community.”
May is Food Allergy Awareness Month, making it a perfect time to check out the recording below of last month’s UPLIFT Access Resource Webinar, all about the topic! Our featured expert’s presentation and our discussion will help you consider ways to make your congregation’s shared meals more accessible.
Last but not least, May 21 is the 15th annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day, highlighting the importance of digital accessibility around the world. This type of accessibility is critical for blind people like me, folks with low-vision, Deafness, cognitive disabilities, and more to go to school, to do our jobs, to buy our food, and more. Check out our past GAAD blog posts, and stay tuned for a recording of the GAAD event I joined on Zoom, put on by the Accessibility Task Force at the UU Church of Eugene, OR.
All My Best,
Gretchen
