Interim or Transitional Ministry before a Settled Search

Part of The Settled Ministry Search Handbook

Congregations that have a two-year interim ministry between settled ministries give themselves time to process the previous ministry and get ready for the next ministry.

Congregations that have just completed a long term (more than a dozen years) ministry, or had a traumatic end to the ministry due to conflict or the unexpected death of a minister may need a three-year interim minister, or possibly a developmental minister.

  • support the search committee
  • give prospective ministers a collegial view into the congregation to help in discernment
