Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families 2024-2025 UU Common Read Resource Kit

Welcome to the UU Common Read of Authentic Selves.

A book cover with the words "Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and their Families. Interviews by Peggy Gillespie." And the quote from Jazz and Jeanette Jennings, "Love glows from every page." The background is a swirl of colors that look like watercolor paints.

The book offers life stories and portraits of trans and nonbinary people, alongside

their partners, parents, children, siblings, and chosen family members. Through interviews and photo portraits, the subjects of this book invite readers into their real lives—their revelations, challenges, joys, and networks of support.

This UU Common Read invites participants to tell their own stories and deepen understanding of how gender identity has shaped their lives. Participants explore what it means to live authentically and how connections among us help us thrive.

To help protect the identities and stories of the individuals who participated in the book and in videos for our Common Read, we require you to log in or register with a uua.org account to access the Authentic Selves resource kit.
