Last month saw the largest-ever gathering of transgender Unitarian Universalist religious professionals. Twenty-seven trans and non-binary UU leaders and two allied UUA staff gathered in Palm Harbor, Florida, for the second membership retreat of TRUUsT, Transgender Religious professional UUs Together.

For three days, attendees built community, worshiped together, and engaged in organizing to support the many varied ministries of trans people within Unitarian Universalism. The retreat was facilitated by Lisbeth Meléndez Rivera, an organizer and trainer at the intersections of sexual orientation, gender identity, and culture specifically as they relate to communities of color.

One attendee reflected: “It's not often that people in leadership in our faith have the space to be ministered to. I was offered this space and the opportunity to be ministered to FULLY. All of my being was validated and appreciated.”

TRUUsT, founded in 2004 by Mr. Barb Greve and Rev. Sean Parker Dennison, is an organization of transgender and non-binary Unitarian Universalist religious professionals that advocates for the gifts, safety, liberation, and leadership of trans religious professionals in UU ministries and institutions.
