How to Launch an Evening Worship: A Sanctuary Boston Webinar - Jan 31 & Feb 7 @ 1:00pm
By Matt Meyer
At Sanctuary Boston, we want to help grow a Unitarian Universalism that iss as inclusive in its worship styles and format and cultures as it is in beliefs and theologies. We want to help grow a faith that invites the whole person into worship, not only our reason and intellect, but our hearts and bodies as well.
In order to share some of our learnings, we’re hosting a webinar in two parts!
Part 1 - January 31st @ 1pm-2pm EST: "What to know Before You Go"
Our first session will explore the entire planning process leading up to your first service. Assessing needs, finding your people, building your team, and building a budget.
If you’re thinking of starting up any kind of evening worship community, this session is for you. We’ll overview different styles and possibilities of vespers, emergent worship, contemporary worship, dinner church, and circle worship. Then, we’ll delve into the tools for success that any and all evening gatherings need, before you even meet for a first time.
Part 2 - February 7th @ 1pm-2pm EST: Worship After Dark
Our second session will address the worship service itself. We'll look at the shape and flow, the success and missteps of sanctuary worship gatherings. This will include notes on the outreach, community feel, music styles, participation, and accessibility.
How do we create a worship spaces that is inviting to young adults and unchurched seekers? What have other contemporary and emergent communities learned about using ritual, visuals, music, and community participation in worship and how does that all come together at a Sanctuary Boston worship gathering?
