Panel Discussion
Panel moderated by Dr. David von Schlichten with Panelists: Erica Shadowsong, Meredith Juchniewicz and Robyn Travers
Erica Shadowsong, Director of Lifespan Religious Education Director, has a passion for all things creative, especially the performing arts. She has been a religious educator for over six years of experience. She enjoys using her storytelling skills in Unitarian Universalist worship settings. Formerly a middle school English teacher, Erica holds a B.A. in English and a Graduate Certificate in Interdisciplinary Studies in Folklore, concentration in Applied Storytelling, from George Mason University. In addition, she is a member of the Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA) and a 2016 Fahs Research Fellow, representing educational entrepreneurs in the practice of religious education. She explored the subject of devotional reading as a spiritual practice in her Fahs Fellowship, and most recently, presented two workshops at GA on storytelling and multicultural identities, and the needs of trans-racially adopted children and their parents in our congregations.
Robyn Travers, Congregational Life Administrator, has a hybrid position of half time admin and half time Director of Religious Education. As admin, she is always looking for way to make tasks more efficient so she has more time to help the congregants do the important work of church. As Director of Religious Education, her real passion, she understands that the role of religious education particularly in children and youth is not to teach our kids what to think, but how to think for themselves. We encourage our children to see the world with wonder, curiosity and empathy. We give them the tools to discern what is right and correct for them and how to build a fair and just world. Robyn has been a member of the UU Church of the North Hills since 2011.
Meredith Juchniewicz, MA, ACC, CPTD, Learning Expert, Experience Designer, Professional Coach, ELM Learning — Duquesne University. Throughout her career as a coach, instructional designer, learning facilitator and leadership guru she’s always had the ability to imagine how things could be and to get them there.
