For millennia
People have gathered together to hear stories,
To root for the underdog,
To jeer the evil and the unkind.
We see in our stories
Mirrors to our own lives
Where we hope good things will happen to good people
And that evil will be vanquished.
This morning we gather for story,
For cheering and jeering,
For hope and for justice.
May this ancient story shed new light on our own lives
And may we know ourselves connected to millions of listeners who have come before us and millions of listeners who will come after.
