Chalice for the Earth

The famous “blue marble” photo of the Earth from space taken by the crew of Apollo 17. Africa, the Arabian peninsula, Madagascar, and Antarctica are visible behind some cloud cover, as well as the Indian Ocean and the South Atlantic.

We light this chalice for the Earth,
Of which we all are part;
We pledge to care for what it needs
And hold it in our heart.

Traducción por Rev. Tania Márquez:

Encendemos este cáliz por la tierra,
A la cual pertenecemos;
Prometemos cuidarla
Y llevarla en el corazón

The author notes that this chalice lighting could be read by a whole congregation, shared simply in the children’s program, or read one line at a time by different voices.
