Recruiting for the UUA Presidential Search Committee
We are seeking dedicated Unitarian Universalists, both religious professionals and lay leaders, to help guide the future of our Unitarian Universalist faith. Applications are now open for positions on the UUA Presidential Search Committee, which recruits, selects, and presents at least two qualified nominees for the position of UUA President to the UUA Board of Trustees.
Committee Structure
- Seven members total.
- Five members are selected by the Nominating Committee and are then elected by the delegates at General Assembly 2026.
- Two members are selected by the Appointments Committee and are then submitted to the UUA Board of Trustees for appointment to the Presidential Search Committee.
- Candidates to be elected or appointed will be determined in joint collaboration with the Nominating and Appointments Committees.
Length of Term
- Five years (term begins at the end of General Assembly 2026).
- The next UUA presidential election will take place at General Assembly 2029.
- Presidential Search Committee members are expected to remain on the committee through General Assembly 2031.
Meetings and Time Commitment
- The work is a significant volunteer commitment involving a thorough, multi-phase process including organization, preparation, and the nomination process itself.
- Meeting schedule is TBD, mostly via Zoom.
- Attendance at GA is expected (registration and travel related expenses will be covered by the UUA).
Key Responsibilities and Functions
- Recruitment and Review
- Actively seeking, recruiting, reviewing applications forms, and checking references for potential candidates for UUA President.
- Assessment of Candidates
- Evaluating applicants based on a range of criteria, including:
- commitment to Unitarian Universalism’s mission and values, particularly the work of dismantling systems of oppression and white supremacy.
- leadership skills and the ability to manage a complex organization.
- capacity to serve as the primary public and spiritual leader of the faith.
- cultural competence and the ability to represent the diversity of the Association.
- Evaluating applicants based on a range of criteria, including:
- Strong Communication Skills
- Transparency, Discretion, Reliability, and Confidentiality
- Collaboration
- Working with the UUA Board of Trustees to ensure a shared vision and clear expectations for the search and the future UUA President.
- Understanding of the UUA structure and governance, and an awareness of Associational needs and issues.
