Sandra Williams is an activist, lecturer, filmmaker, and entrepreneur who has been addressing issues of discrimination, equity, and social justice for nearly forty years. She is publisher and editor of the Black Lens, and the founder and executive director of the Carl Maxey Center, an African American centered cultural center whose mission is to uplift, empower, and transform Spokane's black community from the inside out. In 2013, Sandra was appointed by Washington Governor Jay Inslee as the Eastern Washington representative for the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs, where she served until 2018. She is also a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Multicultural Affairs (MACMA), a member of the Spokane branch of the NAACP, and a founding member of Spokane Community Against Racism (SCAR), one of many community organizations that participated in the Side With Love public witness action that occurred during the June 2019 General Assembly.
